Original Text: Book Intro
In the designing of this book I came across some of the most gifted craft people we have her in Northern Ireland . Included in this book are crafters from across the province who have worked tirelessly to keep local craft alive . Attending Craft Fairs Local Markets, Agricultural and Horticultural Shows all year round .
Supporting Charity Events and spending long hours preparing to travel the length and breadth of the counties is a part of being a crafter .
Most Saturdays and weekends during the summer months are taken up attending all kinds of organised fairs and fetes .
Bringing together some of the best to show first hand the talent that is here in Northern Ireland has been a task that I found very easy . The array of talent is endless and very much alive ..
As a local designer myself, I truly understand the hard work and dedication it takes to make it in the craft Industry. I have spent many hours in the cold winter months supporting our local market here in Coleraine; The Causeway Speciality Market.
Craft has made an explosive comeback in the last five years . Gone are the days of the Women’s Institute selling knitted Tea Cosies or Dolls clothes .
Customers today expect only the best and demand that the goods for sale are of the quality you might expect to find in any shop .
Since most of the goods sold at local fairs is actually produced locally I think it is safe to say that the quality is in the making and supporting local crafters is a tremendous boost to them.
There is an array of goods for sale and on any day you can expect to find Hand carved Canoes, American Cookies, Scented Candles, Personalised Cards and Bespoke Collector Bears . Jewellery pieces that are designed individually, wall clocks and Chutneys all make up our local craft. All lovingly prepared and designed created for the customer with enthusiasm and Uniqueness that only comes from One Of Pieces .
Its not all about selling the craft . Behind the scenes there is the long hours spent designing and then actually making and producing the pieces . Some of our crafters work full time to keep up the demand of their products . In this book you will be able to find Crafters and Artists who will design a special piece for you. You will also find information on how to contact each designer personally.
I hope you enjoy this insight into the local craft scene as much as I have enjoyed putting together this collection of Artists ..
