In the opening of the book, The Picture of Dorian Gray, there is feeling of adoration upon the protagonist, Dorian Gray. Dorian Gray is portrayed as a young, handsome, and innocent man who catches the eye of Basil Hallward, a painter becomes so fascinated by Dorian that he paints a portrait to capture Dorian’s essence. Throughout the novel, series of events leads to Dorian Gray’s downfall and in conclusion result to his death. Who is to blame? Lord Henry? Basil? Or Dorian Gray himself?
