What is a Heart?

Original Text:

When my son asked me what a heart is, I didn’t know how to answer him. Being a mother of small children, I thought he wanted the emotional definition of a heart. I told him that the heart was the seat of all his emotions like; love, hate, joy, sadness, courage, etc. He looked at me, bored and said, “I know that, but what is this?” My son was pointing to an actual picture of a human heart from one of my medical books. Apparently he tried to ask my husband, but he sent him to me to explain the gross picture.
There is also a thick wall running down the middle of the heart that is called a septum. The job of the septum is to separate the left side of the heart with the right side.
